About the Opportunity:

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated team player as an addition to our vivarium team. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Vivarium Technician will perform animal husbandry and sanitation. In addition, they may provide assistance with research-related activities (e.g. data collection and animal observation as set by research protocols).

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  • Monitor and observe animal behavior, maintaining accurate and detailed records regarding the identity, health, and habits of various animal species
  • Perform vivarium phlebotomy per SOP requirements on a consistent, regular basis
  • Perform and assist with animal husbandry to include the changing cages, feeding/watering animals using specialized techniques and equipment, and developing skills necessary to safely and humanely handle various animal species
  • Report any issues related to animal husbandry, facilities, or veterinary health issues to supervisor
  • Follow all animal health and safety protocol.
  •  Assess conditions of caging/equipment and make recommendations for equipment repair or replacement
  • Maintain and ensure proper sanitation of work area, equipment, and facility
  • Participate in on-the-job training required to develop new skills, learn new techniques, and implement new policies
  • Provide adequate quantities of clean feed and water to all animals daily
  • Prepare and provide sufficient quantities of clean and bedded cages, as well as other supplies and materials
  • Track and maintain adequate supplies and inventory to support daily activities throughout facilities
  • Provide routine supply/equipment orders to the supervisor (i.e. feed and bedding, disposable supplies, equipment repairs and service)
  • Weigh or restrain animals when required for various technical procedures
  • Perform post-mortem technical procedures
  •  Perform other duties as assigned


  • High School Degree or GED and 2 or more years of relevant work experience required
  •  American Association of Laboratory Animal Science certification at the ALAT level desirable
