Supervisor – Production Line Mechanic

BASIC FUNCTION

The Mechanic Supervisor performs day-to-day repair & maintenance of electrical/electronic A/C & D/C, PLC’s components, hydraulic, pneumatic and associated systems related to the production equipment & systems. Must have a strong understanding of how the equipment is used and works. Will also performs other general mechanical maintenance work as required. May act as a production supervisor if required. Must have a complete understanding of all Company cGMP’s, SOP’s and FDA regulations. The Mechanic Supervisor provides the Maintenance Manager with accurate information relating to the condition of the plant and equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the safe and effective completion of mechanical work in the plant. This includes troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, and machinery installation. Work under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and with other plant personnel in completing assigned maintenance and repair work as necessary to optimize plant performance. Request parts necessary for timely completion of maintenance work.  
  • Enter and update the work orders and maintain machinery history for all plant mechanical equipment in the computerized maintenance management software database or log book. Acquire a complete understanding for using the database to prepare reports.
  • Work with the Maintenance Manager to develop and continuously improve plant maintenance scheduling and procedures in the maintenance database.
  • Establish and maintain knowledge of all plant processes. Work across disciplines to ensure high plant reliability.
  • Provide training to plant Line Leads, Operators and Mechanics in the proper use & set-up of production equipment – systems and use of tools and measuring instruments. Develop in-house training programs as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Assist the Maintenance Manager to schedule all maintenance work associated with planned and forced outages. Work with the plant Line Leads, Operators, Mechanics to ensure that work is being performed safely, efficiently, and correctly.
  • Research, design, and implement plant improvements and modifications as directed.
  • Notify the Maintenance Manager of any unsafe conditions or actions.
  • Attend meetings and plant training sessions as required. Obtain certification in required environmental, health, and safety programs. Participate in plant committees as assigned.
  • Keep his/her primary workstation appearance clean and orderly while maintaining a professional atmosphere. Clean up and stow tools after performing assignments. Keep the shop clean and orderly.
  • Required to be available for call-ins for mechanical and operational problems.

Qualifications:

  • Five + years of extensive mechanical experience in the field of production equipment Mechanical Maintenance, in the food or personal care product manufacturing field. Knowledge with Norden tube fillers, Terco aerosol filling & capping equipment, coders Video Jet & laser, Fills-All / Caps-All fillers and capers, Cozzoli in-line fillers and MRM rotary fillers would be a plus.
  • High School diploma or equivalent education (minimum).
  • Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills commensurate with repairs and maintenance of production equipment and systems.
  • Basic physics and applied mathematics as required to allow the understanding of combined plant systems and equipment such as pumps, motors, shaft to shaft alignment, seal types and valves.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Read all applicable drawing types, including mechanical & electrical drawings and system piping & instrument diagrams.
  • Identify and respond to mechanical equipment problems.
  • A valid Texas driver’s license class C is required to drive a light duty truck. The position will require the ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds. Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must provide own set of tools.
  • Supports, follows and administers all work rules established in the Employee Handbook.
  • Remains professionally attired and maintains personal grooming to reflect attention to good personal hygiene practices.
  • Achieves and maintains all goals and work standards outlined in current review period.

Must be on your feet 8 to 10 hours a day in a fast paced environment. Willing to work weekends as needed.
