STUDY DIRECTOR/VERTINERY SURGEON
- Perform contracted studies with no supervision.
- Write protocols, record data, and analyze data.
- Perform literature searches.
- Place materials and reagents orders.
- Train new staff members
- Take on new tasks or projects as needed.
This position must communicate and exercise sound judgment and organizational practices in performing a variety of duties involving establishing and maintaining positive relationships with BTS team members, and other duties as assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities
The duties of the Study Director/Veterinary Surgeon are to be carried out with a professionally friendly, enthusiastic, can-do attitude. Must be able to maintain a friendly, positive attitude and a professional demeanor at all times, committed to the pursuit of excellence in areas including customer services.
Although timeliness is essential, it is imperative to understand the importance of maintaining and understanding accurate timelines, accurate supply levels and communicating to the Department Manager to successfully execute all the duties and responsibilities of this evolving position.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain safety and Research quality.
- Perform tasks for experiments following step-by-step protocols with direct to close supervision.
- Participate in experiments that include dosing, sampling, necropsy, etc.
- Assist with labels, restraint, Research study prep.
- Conduct Animal health observation.
- Communicate in an effective and timely manner.
- Occasional weekend, early morning or late-night work required.
- Interact directly with Research Coordinator for direction.
- Research set-up and preparation
- Perform other duties as directed by Management.
- Assist with data review and analysis.
- Perform literature search/assist with development for upcoming projects.
- Perform scope of experiments following step-by-step protocols with little to no supervision.
- Provide guidance to another Research personnel.
- Provide guidance to lower-level Research personnel.
- Independently implement and execute in-vivo studies.
- Able to work among and across most animals’ species.
- Assist in development and utilization of in-vivo animal models.
- Identify and troubleshoot technical issues as an “expert”.
- Consult with Research Directors, as needed.
- Make appropriate Research related decisions.
- Requires Some client interaction.
- Split time between vivarium (in-vivo) and Research supervision (documentation)
- Assist in compiling data, prepare ACUP's, protocols, reports, prepare graphs, analysis.
- Maintain communication and regular updates with the Managers.
- Plans, coordinates, and evaluates the work of multiple staff.
- Research Set-up and Take down coordination.
- Perform other duties as directed by Management.
- Independently implement and execute in-vivo studies.
- Establish and delegate Research tasks to Research Personnel.
- Assist in the development and utilization of animal models.
- Identify and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Consult with Research Directors, as needed.
- Make level appropriate, Research related decisions.
- Assist in compiling data, prepare ACUP's, protocols, reports, prepare graphs, analysis.
- Act as Research Study Director if needed.
- Maintain communication and regular updates with the Managers.
- Plans, coordinates, and evaluates the work of multiple staff.
- Research Set-up and Take down coordination.
- Perform other duties as directed by Management.

- Back up for research Coordinator or Sr. RA
- Can be a trainer for all-techniques possessed.
- Able to work across most animals’ species.
- Able to be signed off on required safety training.
- Proficient in multiple surgical models.
- Maintain records and documentation.
- Maintain positive interaction with co-workers.
- Able to work with or be trained to work with biohazardous or radioactive materials.
- Follow directions of the Study Directors.

- Complete all required training.
- Provide guidance to lower-level Research personnel.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
