Local to Houston, TX as a contract to hire opportunity, the Oncology Scientist is responsible for performing assays according to SOPs and support development of new procedures and improvement of existing SOPs. As a Oncology Scientist, you will supervise laboratory staff to ensure efficient organization, quality, development and execution of projects. You will lead IF, tissue based IHC Image based projects through assay design and development, validation, and execution in a timely manner. This role is perfect for a Ph.D. graduate in Pathology, Cellular/Cancer Biology, Immunology, Stem Cell, Fetal Cell Biology or a related field, with 3 yeas of relevant laboratory experience. To be successful as an Oncology Scientist, you should have experience with tissue staining using IHC, and mIF within Oncology, and experience with Halo or Inform software, Vectra, Polaris, and Lecia Bondrx instrument.


Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to:

  • Strong expertise with tissue based immunofluorescent and immunohistochemistry (IHC) applications
  • Experience with Perkin Elmer Vectra technologies image microscopy analysis is a plus or competitor technology, as wells as Halo analysis software
  • Experienced with H&E review
  • Experience in CTC, oncology, immunology or related fields with cellular analysis is a plus.
  • Outstanding skills with project planning, experimental design, oversight and advanced troubleshooting related to execution of projects, documenting and analyzing data and generating detailed reports is required
  • Design and perform experiments, independently and accurately analyze and present data
  • High quality output is essential with the ability to build efficiency into improving productivity metrics
  • Collaborate with the manager, VP to develop project timelines and track to these timelines, as well as train and mentor junior staff in techniques, data analysis, and presentation
  • Assist in establishing and improving all procedures and required SOP documentation
  • Identify, update and implement emerging laboratory techniques
  • Responsible for ensuring all equipment in the laboratory is appropriately qualified, that preventative maintenances are performed as scheduled by the Facilities team and that team members are thoroughly trained in the correct use and maintenance of the equipment; Responsible for trouble shooting and correcting scientific issues/problems
  • Monitor Product and Service/R&D related project expenses
  • Act as a scientific resource externally to clients and internally
  • Assists with writing, reviewing and editing contract and grant applications/proposals as appropriate, and assist with writing and publishing papers, abstracts, techniques/or chapters to maintain the scientific standard and image of the company.



  • Ph. D. MD Pathology, Cellular/Cancer Biology, Immunology, Stem Cell, Fetal Cell Biology or related fields and 3 years’ relevant laboratory experience or Foreign country certified clinical pathologist (but qualified for US research pathology practice)
  • Master’s Degree and 5+ years’ relevant laboratory experience
  • Ability to lift and carry between 1-15 lbs.; frequently required to sit, grasp, and use right/left finger dexterity; May be exposed to a cold freezer environment (Freezer temperatures range between -20ºC -196ºC)



  • A solid understanding of current GLP and/or ISO/CAP/CLIA standards
  • Demonstrated skills in monitoring cell-mediated immunity through cell-based assays, flow cytometry, as well as, ELISpot, multiplexed cytokine analysis such as Mesoscale and/or Luminex
  • Experience supervising or overseeing technical personnel
