Research & Development Chemist

Our client, a leading manufacturer of protective materials, industrial coatings, and adhesives, is seeking a Research Chemist to join their growing team. This is a direct hire position in greater Pittsburgh, PA area. The focus will entail successful scale-up of R & D products in production.

Duties and Responsibilities
 

• Work collaboratively with internal team colleagues to create and commercialize new products: Research and development of Adhesive, Sealant and Coating formulations
• Work in collaboration with Operations for successful scale-up of R & D products in production.
• Creation of project plans and timelines, providing updates; conducting literature and patent reviews and making internal summaries and presentations
• Technical support to Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and other Product Development staff as needed.
• Provide technical knowledge and leadership in Adhesives, Sealant and Coatings related to raw materials, processes, test methodologies
• Familiar with Stage gate process and Design control procedure knowledge and document maintenance
• Work with EHS as needed to support regulatory compliance.
• Travel up to 20%

Education

• BS in Chemistry/Materials Science/Chemical Engineering/ Polymer Science with 10+ years of experience
• MS in with 6+ years of experience or PhD with 3+ years of experience

Qualifications

• Good understanding of different chemistries, i.e., silicone, epoxy, urethane, UV curing, etc., and structure-property relationship.
• Experience with scale up of R&D products; familiar with statistical analysis tools, as DOE
• Familiar with analytical analysis techniques, such as FT-IR, DSC, TGA, GC-MS, GPC and physical properties testing
