Our client, a world leader in the quality assurance market within the pharmaceutical industry, is hiring for a Research Chemist to join their Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals team.

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with members of the spectroscopy and materials properties teams to solve problems for clients using IR and Raman and thermal analysis.
    • The focus will be on spectroscopy with about 25% of the time spent on thermal
  • Analyzes wide variety of materials including polymers and polymer chemistries, graphite, corrosion products, inorganics materials, and complete unknowns
  • Uses FTIR and Raman to determine material composition, extent of polymer degradation, presence/absence of additives or processing aids, structure of multilayered materials
  • Contribute to the failure analysis of polymers
  • Uses thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to analyze thermal properties of polymers
  • Designs experiments, collect and interpret data, author, and issue formal reports
  • Ensures compliance of company/client SOP, protocols, safety policies, or other procedures with government regulations

Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemistry or related field with 5+ years industrial experience in vibrational spectroscopy
  • Working knowledge of the fundamentals of Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy, and thermal analysis
  • Experience with different IR analysis techniques including ATR, micro-Raman, and particle analysis
  • Experience with advanced spectral data processing including chemometrics and quantitative spectral analysis preferred, understanding of spectral data interpretation
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate technical and business information
