ROLES / RESPONSIBILITES
· Extract DNA/RNA from patient materials (primarily unstained slides, FFPE blocks, peripheral blood, bone marrow, plasma and other biological fluids).
· Use both manual and automated technologies existing in the laboratory.
· Independently develop and improve existing technologies required for the Molecular Diagnostics Section program under a direction of lab technical director; develop and revise SOPs for extraction of DNA from bodily fluids such as cerebrospinal fluid or improve an existing custom next generation sequencing (NGS) assay and other procedures.
· Macrodissect tissues of interest from unstained slides using manual or automated technologies.
· Independently perform newly laboratory developed DNA and RNA Next-generation sequencing assays. The assay procedure is highly complex and involve over 100 steps for library preparation. The final libraries are sequenced on a high throughput sequencer, Illumina NextSeq 550 or NovaSeq 600. The results are used for pathology diagnosis, therapy, and clinical research.
· Account for and accession submitted materials into the Laboratory’s existing databases, including SoftPath and COMPASS LIMS.
· Track orders and material workflow in existing databases, including CRIS, SoftPath and COMPASS LIMS.
· Ensure compliance with CAP and CLIA laboratory regulations.
· Adhere to policies set forth for the protection of human subjects’ research and patient care privacy laws; abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) and the Federal Privacy Act.
· Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) in accordance with regulatory requirements mandated by LP’s accrediting bodies.
· Organize the lab daily operation tasks. Perform QC/QM for weekly clinical tests, monthly NGS QC review, and CAP self-inspection.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology or a related discipline.
· Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a molecular diagnostics laboratory or molecular biology research laboratory.
· Experience with PCR, NGS, DNA/RNA extraction from tissues, blood, etc.
· Extensive experience with adherence to the technical, quality and safety standards set forth by the College of American Pathologists relating to Molecular Diagnostic procedures.
