Job Title: Medicinal Chemist 
Location: Marlborough, MA 

Essential Functions:

  • Apply medicinal chemistry principles and synthesis capabilities in drug discovery projects focused on CNS disorders.

  • Manage chemistry FTEs and other CRO projects effectively to ensure optimal productivity.

  • Lead or co-lead projects to develop hits to leads and ultimately into clinical candidates.

  • Facilitate expansion of the Discovery research portfolio into new CNS disease opportunities.

  • Develop strategies for expansion of the corporate privileged compound library and identify new opportunities with respect to research and technology.

  • Work as a drug discovery partner with Discovery Pharmacology to initiate and prosecute new research projects, with Legal to develop effective patent strategies, and with Translational Medicine & CMC to ensure efficient technology transfer for emerging drug candidates.

  • Represent the science of the company internally and externally.

  • Collaborate with DRD for synergy and maximal productivity.

 

Minimum Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • PhD in Organic Chemistry with > 6-8 years small molecule drug discovery experience; CNS research experience is a plus.

  • Skilled and comfortable with a fully outsourced research model.

  • Dynamic and creative individual with strong problem-solving and small molecule drug design abilities.

  • Excellent project leadership skills, work well in a team, be objective-driven, and understand the importance of project timelines.

  • Understanding of the biology of potential drug targets and systems biology.

  • Practical knowledge of the use of in vitro ADMET and in vivo PK to support lead generation and optimization.

  • Thorough understanding of process/strategy of intellectual property formation, in partnership with Legal, in the crafting of IP strategies and the use of IP to enhance the value of company programs.

  • State-of-the-art knowledge of technologies, processes and best practices and consistent contribution to organic chemistry/medicinal chemistry scientific and patent literature.

  • Keen awareness of the business of drug development and the ability to balance business and scientific goals in achieving success.

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
