Our top biotechnology client is looking to add a laboratory technologist to their team!
Position Summary:
The Laboratory Technologist is a member of the Laboratory Team responsible for support on a variety of operational tasks and activities within the Laboratory area including, but not limited to, the receipt and preparation of cord blood and cord tissue samples, reagents and supplies for processing. Laboratory Technologist will also complete the documentation associated with sample receipt and processing.
You Will:
- All tasks will be completed in accordance with the relevant Standard Operation Procedures (SOP).
- Sample reception – Dispatch message retrieval, CBAF initiation, CTAF initiation, Confirmation Call Log initiation
- Pre-processing activities – material prep, supplies labels, worksheet prep, ABO gel card prep
- Temperature documentation of all monitored equipment and areas
- Adherence to cGMP protocols
- Strict adherence to proper protocol for sign off, dating and initialing all applicable documentation
- Preparation of Cryoprotectant
- Receive deliveries from couriers
- Maintain inventory records as needed
- CBU and maternal serology reception, pre-processing and trouble shooting
- Preparation of samples for processing
- Complete documentation of samples for processing and storage
- Perform Client Confirmation calls as needed (weekends)
- Aliquoting of maternal blood samples
- Sample handling- prepare referred out test samples (Maternal blood and Culture bottles)
- Referred out test results entry and verification
- BacT/Alert – sample loading, unloading, reporting printing, and data entry of results
- Loading/unloading of Controlled Rate Freezers
- Moving CBUs into storage tanks
- General laboratory clean-up and maintenance
- Perform maintenance on lab equipment and complete maintenance logs
- Ability to operate all relevant lab equipment
- Restock inner Lab inventory daily with in use supplies
- Biohazardous Waste Management prep for pickup and documentation
You Have:
- Successful completion of a recognized Medical Lab training program or equivalent experience.
- OSMT Certification is an asset.
- Minimum 1 year experience as a lab assistant/technologist preferred
- Previous hospital experience an asset
- Awareness of laboratory hygiene and safety regulations and precautions
- Excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Excellent computer skills, including previous experience in the use of LIS
- Ability to work with others effectively in a team environment
- Ability to work independently, follow instructions precisely is required
- Highly motivated with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Excellence in communication, both written and verbal
- Strong follow-through skills and focus on completion of tasks
- Strong initiative with emphasis on problem resolutions
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel
