Human Resources Manager

Background

  • Works under general direction of the President
  • Develops policy and directs and coordinates human resources activities, such as employment, compensation, labor relations, benefits, training, and employee services by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Tasks

  • Staffing
    • Works with Human Resources Team, on hiring of exempt and non-exempt employees.
    • Monitor, evaluate and maintain position and job series profile information,
    • Ensures new employee orientation fosters positive attitude toward company goal.
  • Employee Relations
    • Initiate and/or implement internal operating procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations; recommend and develop new or revised procedures.
    • Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
    • Assist employees with any issues while documenting for their file, if needed.
    • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
    • Prepares reports and recommends procedures to reduce absenteeism and turnover.
  • Salary/Benefits
    • Administers salary administration program to ensure compliance and equity within organization.
    • Analyze wage and salary reports within labor market to determine competitive compensation plan.
    • Evaluate, negotiate all benefits including self-insured group plan.
    • Monitor claims and losses on group insurance.
    • Administers benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, 401K, PTO, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
    • Keeps records of benefits plans participation such as insurance and 401K plan, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
  • Training
    • Participate in career development issues, discussing career paths with line managers and recommending suitable candidate for promotion.
    • Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.
  • Administration
    • Compose correspondence requiring knowledge and interpretation of policies and procedures and respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
    • Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization.
    • Represents organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
    • Investigates accidents and prepares reports with Safety Manager for insurance carrier (including light duties/restrictions, loss runs, repetitive injuries, clinic negotiations).
  • Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources function and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance. Consults legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state law.
  • Prepares budget of human resources operations.
  • Writes and delivers presentations to corporate officers or government officials regarding human resources policies and practices.

Specifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management or related field.
  • 3 + years progressively responsible experience in HR within a manufacturing environment is preferred. Chemical Manufacturing experience a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of recruitment, employment trends and out of the box approaches to evolving recruitment challenges.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resources, legal and business support matters, and handling all associated documentation as part of the administrative requirements.
  • Demonstrated abilities of analytical reasoning, creative thinking, and resourcefulness, thinking with good judgment, initiative, and a strong work ethic are required.
  • Ability to work through multiple tasks simultaneously, manage time efficiently, and work with minimal supervision is required.
  • Excellent communication skills are required, with ability to coach and mentor.
  • Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • People management experience is preferred.
