Job Description:
We are looking for a Histology Technician that can work as part of a cohesive team in a high volume, fast paced environment.
Location: Austin, TX
Hours: Monday – Friday; Third Shift- 2am-10:30am
Pay Range: $21.00-$31.00/hr. depending on experience
Responsibilities:
- Embedding; microtomy, cutting and mounting paraffin sections onto microscopic slides
- Prepare slides for routine H & E and special stain procedures
- Cover slips and route slides and protocols to pathologists
- Perform and document scheduled preventative maintenance
- Maintain records and documentation required to manage the daily workflow and provide QC/QA monitors
- Must be able to troubleshoot areas of processing, embedding, cutting, staining
- Must have the capability of flexing schedule to accommodate workload to include weekend coverage
- File paraffin blocks and microscopic slides
- Special Stains rotation
- Meet all deadlines as assigned
- Maintain and support a service-oriented relationship with customers
- Ensure compliance with ALL local, federal, CLIA, CAP, safety and OSHA guidelines
- Operate general laboratory equipment.
- Participate in all continuing education programs provided by company and those required to keep certification current. Immunohistochemistry coverage.
This role will have routine access to Protected Health Information (PHI). Employees will be trained and are expected to maintain strict confidentiality and abide by all privacy and security standards.
Education:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Graduation from a school of Histotechnology accredited by CAHEA/NAACLS
- HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification
Experience:
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a fast paced, high-volume laboratory with documented special stain and immunohistochemistry experience.
Skills:
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the laboratory and with laboratory clients.
- Ability to adapt to a changing work environment by organizing and prioritizing time and resources to produce the most effective work performance.
- Ability to assess work tasks, recognize limitations and request assistance when appropriate.
- Must be able to meet department standards for cutting and embedding within the probationary period.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Requires fine motor skills and manual dexterity to manipulate tools, objects, and equipment.
Environmental Demands: Works in temperature-controlled environment. May encounter hazards common to a pathological laboratory and encounter contagious pathogens and various laboratory chemicals. May be required to operate fire and safety equipment or follow other safety procedures in an emergency. May be required to work with time constraints and in crisis situations.
