The Biocide Formulation Scientist is responsible for the creation of new anti-microbial products. This includes the development, and support of new and existing biocide products, and the generation of data for new biocide development, product claims, registrations, and market applications.

Responsibilities:

• Formulate antimicrobial prototypes for efficacy testing
• Design and develop studies to explore biocidal properties of formulated products, and their compatibility with other actives and inerts.
• Develop research data for new product development, registration, commercialization, and product specifications
• Record experimental methods, materials, and results in laboratory notebooks, analyze data and evaluate results,effectively communicating, and presenting findings as needed.
• Provide subject matter expertise and support necessary for technology transfer, product registration, and commercialization.
• Assist in preparing and submitting samples for industry and governmental testing including required documentation, characterization protocol and characterization study for new biocide products.
• Author technical data sheets, white papers, technical trade journal articles and assist with marketing tools for new and existing biocide products.
• Provide guidance/troubleshooting/technical and product support for biocide customers
• Participate in relevant trade and technical associations.
• Work collaboratively with Registration, Regulatory, Product Safety, Quality, customers, and commercial stakeholders.
• Monitor the biocide, preservative, and regulatory areas to constantly increase knowledge and use this knowledge to identify opportunities for competitive product positioning
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Responsible Care Management System®.

Collaboration:

This position collaborates with the Biocide Technology Manager, Micro lab Biochemist, research technicians, analytical and synthesis chemists, members of the Quality Assurance group, Product Safety, Registration, Regulatory and Manufacturing.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

REQUIRED:

• BS degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry or related discipline, Biochemistry, or Food Science
• At least ten years of relevant industrial biocide formulation experience
• Knowledge of biocide formulation techniques targeting a specific pathogen type
• Familiarity with microbial registration formulation concepts and application technologies
• Proven record in product formulation for use in HI&I, Personal Care, disinfectants, sanitizers, preservatives, or cleaners
• Knowledge of Antimicrobials, Biocides and Preservatives, such as:Quaternary Ammonium Salts

Chlorine Dioxide,PAA and Hydrogen Peroxide
Glutaraldehyde
DDBSA, Citric Acid, etc.
Green or natural biocides and preservatives

• Working knowledge of US FIFRA, EPA and EU No 528/2012 aka “BP Regulation” or “BPR” biocide regulations and registration processes
• Working knowledge of US EPA standard test methods for evaluating disinfectant and sanitizer products
• Ability to work in a shared laboratory setting and being flexible to assist others in the team, as needed

PREFERRED:

• Industrial Biocidal experience in areas of specific interest
• Public health disinfectants and cleaners
• Nonpublic health biocides applications for water treatment, Oil and Gas, wood preservation, metal working fluids, HI&I, and Personal Care.
• Proven Industry network
• External publications in technical and/or trade journals
• Industry or academic presentations in the biocide field

Salary: $90,000.00 – $130,000.00 per year
